At a recent class, a student struggled with the word “judge”.
She struggled because she tried to pronounce all of the sounds in the word, instead of making the “dge” one sound.

The J sound can be spelled: “j”, “ge”, and “dge”. Examples: “Jen”, “age”, and “judge”
The CH sound can be spelled: “ch” and “tch”. Examples: “witch” and “which”
The F sound can be spelled: “f”, “ff”, “ph”, and “gh”. Examples: “fun”, “phone”, “cliff” and “cough”.
The W sound can be spelled: “w” and “wh” . Examples: “witch” and “which”.
The N sound can be spelled: “gn”, “kn”, “pn”, “n”. Examples: “gnarled”, “knee”, “pneumonia”, “not”.
The M sound can be spelled: “m”, “mb”. Examples: “man”, “lamb”
The G sound can be spelled: “g”, “gh”. Examples: “go”, “ghost”
