Hi there! Jennifer from Tarle speech with your question of the week. And this is actually a quick tip. Got a question recently how do you pronounce s t l e and we have a few silent letters here. We have a silent t and we have a silent e. So when you see this s-t-l-e you’re going to think about saying sul sul sul.
So to say that, the tip of your tongue is behind the back of your top front teeth and are pointing down. Air moves out of your mouth continuously. Then you’re going to move to that short uh. Really short, really relaxed, really quick vowel. You’re going to say that as you move your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and you’re going to hold it there. Technically right on that spot between where your teeth meet the skin of the roof of your mouth. Sul Sul Sul.
If this is hard for you, keep in mind a few things. Make sure your tongue is far enough forward for that UL. You don’t want it way back there. Also some people make this L out of their mouth with their tongue touching the bottom of the top front teeth that is fine too. Sul Sul Sul. Also you might want to smile as you are saying Sul to make sure that your lips are pulled back enough because some people will pucker their lips a little too much and then it sounds just like a vowel and no l. So let’s try this in some words
