Hi everyone it’s Jennifer with your weekly heteronym lesson. We have two words today:
Polish which means from Poland and
polish which means to shine
So to say polish we are going to start with pole. To do that say the p: lips together and they just open. Air Puffs out. Move to that o. You’re gonna open your mouth and then move to a pucker. As you do that the tip of your tongue moves from low to the center of your mouth. And then touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth for that l l. As you do that I suggest you pull your lips back into more of a smiling shape.
Pole Pole Pole
For polish you’re just going to open your mouth wide for that oh. Oval shaped mouth, tip of the tongue is down, back of the tongue is pulled way high up. pol
Same tip here for that L when you touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth make sure that you think about smiling lips and pulling those back. We’re going to end both of these words with ish and to do this your mouth is slightly open and the tongue is flat and high in the mouth. It is just behind the top Front Teeth ih ih ih.
Next we’re going to add that shh sound, and to do that, pucker your lips, and your tongue is going to be in the middle of your mouth. The tongue is going to be high. sh
Some people do touch the insides of their tongue to the back teeth and that is okay.
Let’s put these all together:
